The main idea of this essay is how, we as teachers, can relate what the Chapter 1 of the book “Ways of Seeing” by John Berger, says with our pedagogical practice inside the schools. For the ones that have not read this chapter I am going to write a brief summary and then I am going to relate the chapter with our pedagogical practice, according to my personal interpretation.
One of the main ideas in this chapter is that the way we see is affected by what we know, what we believe and what we feel, because we have our own perception of things, we have our own point of view of everything and it is created through our lives experiences. As we are different persons, no one has had the same experiences that you, because we are independent persons with different thought, ideas and feelings.
In simpler words, when we look at a photograph we are looking at the “photographer’s way of seeing”. But the perception or interpretation of that image, photograph or painting, depends also on our own experiences, feelings and beliefs.
Another important thing that the chapter talks about is that “seeing comes before words”, which means that we have to see and then explain what we have seen in our own words. For example, a child sees before she is able to speak and when she does, she speaks what she has seen in her life or what she is seeing in the world, but what she says is her own perception of things, because, as I said before, that little child has her own feelings, thoughts and ideas.
After read this and have an idea of what the chapter says, we can infer that what it is trying to explain is that every person has different perceptions and beliefs, which means that we learn in different ways, in other words, we have different strategies and styles in order to learn something.
Some teachers teach in one way using just one method, because they think that all the students learn in the same way, however they do not realized that all the students learn differently. They have different methods, to some students is easier to learn by seeing, other by listening, writing or using many other methods that we create according to our personality and learning styles.
We as teachers have the necessity to be aware of our students’ needs, in order to develop their skills in a better way and improve their knowledge. Doing this we are not just helping them in improve their learning in our subject, but we are helping them in other subjects too, because once they know which are their learning methods and styles, is easier for them study, because they know how they have to study in order to facilitate their learning in every subject. Knowing this they can create different strategies to learn.
As a conclusion I can say that, if we want to be great teachers, we have the necessity to keep in mind that every person learn in different ways, that when we are in front of a class we have forty five different persons with different lives, thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences. Thus, we have to create classes using different methods, because that way we can have the attention of everybody in the classroom and their learning is going to be easier, due to we are teaching them according to their different learning methods and styles.
We also have to help them to develop a critical thinking, due to they need to have their own opinion about different things, especially about what they do and the mistakes that they make. If they say something wrong in class, we have to give them the opportunity to analyze their mistakes, but we have to do it in a nice way, because if we interrupt them while they are speaking they can be embarrased and can take the decision to not speak again in class. If they learn to analyze themselves and accept the teacher’s opinion in a good way, they are going to be able to make their own conclusion about their errors and, the most important thing, correct them the next time that they are going to use the same structure.

Industralization & Love
The movie “Modern Times” by Charles Chaplin, show us, in a funny way, how people’s life was in the time of Modernity. In the movie we can see how people fought to get a job in the big industries that had started to exist in those times.
The first scene of the movie, really called my attention, because it shows a sheep cattle running and then all those sheeps became into persons. With this image we can infer that “the big boss of the industries” did not care about the worker, they were saw as animals, that is why the workers in those times had so bad conditions in the places where they had to work and where they won a misery as an income.
This movie also show us little of love. There is an orphan girl who is seperated from their sisters, because she is not able to take care of them. She met Chaplin and after a while they fall in love and they decided to work in order to have a home and also because they wanted to have a life without needs, a better life.
Despite of being a Silent Movie, it really takes your attention, because is very realistic in terms of industralization and life conditions. The movie is kind of ironic, because it shows in a funny way the misfortune of two different persons, who are trying to move on in terms of life conditions.
This is the first silent movie that I have seen and also the first movie by Chaplin. I thought that I would not like this kind of movies, because I was going to find them without content and bored, but I was totally wrong; I really enjoy this movie and, for me, was full of content, it was able to capture two very important themes like Love and Industralization.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age
The Virgin Queen.
Elizabeth I, was called the Virgin Queen, because she did not get married and she did not have children. She only was the mother of her people, England. This was one of the biggest issues that she had to face during her reign.
Phillip II, King of Spain, was totally against Elizabeth I reing, because she was a Protestant and he was the most faithfull Christian. Phillip II thought that England was enslave for the devil, because the Queen was Protestant. That why he started the Holy War against England.
Elizabeth was scared to the war, because if Spain won, England won’t have free will, they were going to “believe “ or “think” what he wanted them to think. Phillip II wanted that every human being were Catholic, devouts of God. He was a truly devout Christian, he believed so much in God that he thought that he spoke to him and told him that he had to kill Elizabeth I building a huge fleet, which he called “God’s work”, because she was not a Catholic.
In adittion to Elizabeth I beliefes, she never got married, and she did not had any children, as I said before. Why? We do not know, but this decision was crucial to the hate that Phillip II already had her because she was not a Catholic. We could see this hate in the movie when Phillip II referred to her as a “zorra” with a lot of loathing and also his allies insulted Elizabeth I calling her “whore”.
Because of this she had to created a very hard personality, she needed to seem as a very powerfull woman. We saw these aspects of her life in the movie when she had to be very strict and dominant, even with the people that she liked; and other times very funny and outgoing, especially with her favorite person, Bess.
Finally, I would like to finish this review with the last phrase that Elizabeth I said in the end of the movie:
“They call me the Virgin Queen, no husband, no owner, childness. I am mother of my people. God give me strenghts to bear this great freedom. I am your Queen, I am myself”

STONEHENGE
This entry is a brief summary about the last theory of Stonehenge.
The last finding that some British archaeologists did shows that the Stonehenge Temple was a place with healing powers. They have this position in front of this Temple, because of the presence of bluestones. In their excavations, they found out that these bluestones were used as therapeutic tools. Also they found signs of prehistoric surgery. They use these two findings as supports to their new theory about STONEHENGE.

Carola's presentation
I think that Carolina's presentation was great, because she gave an excellent explanation about Culture and Language, both terms were well explained. She always kept eye contact with her classmates and professor, her pronunciation is excellent, so everything was clear.
The organization of the presentation was good, it was easy to follow and the pictures that she used were very appropiate to the subject.
She seemed very confident while she was presenting and she showed that she had a great domain on the topic. By the way she explains I believe that she is going to be an excellent English teacher.
Congratulations Carolina!

CIVILIZATION
A civilization is a society which shares different things, like culture, language, beliefs, values, etc.
The word civilization is also used as a synonym for the word culture. Every person is in a culture, defined by its art, behaviour and other customs. These constitute their way of life.
Civilizations can be catalogue by their high level of social complexity, organization, by their economic status or cultural activities.
Civilization is also used as a synonym for superiority of certain groups of people, because is assumed to be superior to previous civilizations like savage or barbarian cultures.
As a personal opinion, without civilization the world as we know it would exist, because civilization implies customs, organizations, cities, different occupations, etc.
Also other things that are common in our culture is the transportation, we have different types of transportation like, buses, cars, airplanes. Another thing that characterized us as a civilization is the technology, which it does not exist some years ago.
